Ministry in Holy Redeemer Parish

Ministry in Holy Redeemer

In Holy Redeemer Parish we encourage and welcome active participation from all parishioners. This is your parish, you belong here and your role is significant in the life and survival of your Parish. I encourage all, young and old to actively participate in the liturgies and upkeep of the Church.

You can take part in any number of ministries which we have on offer. Become more involved by saying yes and signing up for at least one ministry. You have many gifts and talents which God has given to you, so don’t be shy and share them with your parish. Like colours of the rainbow each Ministry adds light, life and beauty to our Church.

We provide training and information for all ministries, so don’t think you won’t know what to do as we will help you along the way. It’s great to be part of a team and ministry is an excellent way to participate as a member of a team and provide an essential service to your faith community. Remember we are all called to serve not to be served.

Each ministry has its own unique gifts and characteristics; each ministry challenges us in a different way. It’s not easy for some people to be in the public eye but the challenge brings with it its own rewards and graces.

Below I have attempted to collate all the various ministries which you may consider joining. Remember that no ministry is greater or above another, all are parts working together in harmony.  Be brave, have a read and say Yes!

If you are interested in finding out more information about any ministry in the Church please just ask any of the priests. Leave your name and contact details and the name of the ministry in which you would like to become involved in with the priest, sacristan or the parish office.

Extra-Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist – Is God calling you to serve him in this way?

Okay so let’s start with the Extra-Ordinary Jargon. It is called Extra- Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist because the Ordinary minister of the Eucharist is the priest. Hence all other minsters are Extra-Ordinary (Extra special too). An Extra-Ordinary minister of the Eucharist has the highest privilege of distributing the body and blood of Christ at the Mass. In Holy Redeemer the Extra-Ordinary Eucharistic Ministers are placed on a month to month rota.

You will receive training for your role as an Extra-Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist, so don’t be afraid!

Some questions that might help you discern:

  1. Do you feel a deep reverence for the Body and Blood of Christ?
  2. Are you prayerful?
  3. Are you faithful to schedules?
  4. Are you attentive and helpful?
  5. Do you esteem Teamwork?
  6. Do you serve people in other ways in your life?

After much prayer, reflection and contemplation now is the time to decide what YOU can do for your Church?

Maybe the gift of Music and Song is a hidden talent…Yet to be explored

  1. Do you like to sing?
  2. Have you ever wanted to be part of a choir?

To sing is to pray twice! Join the Church choir or share you musical talents at one of our Masses. This is a ministry we are really eager to develop and grow as music adds so much to the mass. We want our liturgies in Holy Redeemer to be prayerful, joyful and holy your musical talents can help us to achieve this.

Church Stewards

Ever considered joining the Church Stewards Team.  Stewards are valuable ministers in Holy Redeemer. You can become part of this great team. Passing the collection plate around at mass and helping count the funds, is a valuable ministry one in which the Church needs in order to keep its doors open. If you have the time and commitment why not consider helping your parish in this way.

Reader/Lector

Ministers of The Word – As God called Moses from the burning bush so God calls to you from the Sacred Scripture “Come, draw closer meet me in my Word”

Keep in mind

  1. To be an effective Lector calls for adequate preparation that includes, study, prayer and practice.
  2. The ministry of Lector continues the mission of preaching the Word by proclaiming it in the liturgical assembly.
  3. The Church is nourished spiritually at the table of God’s word and at the table of the Eucharist: from one it grows in wisdom and from the other in holiness.

God chooses you “Let it be done to me according to your Word”

Would you like to

  • Love and know the Scriptures more deeply
  • Draw closer to our God who speaks through the Scriptures
  • Be God’s instrument

The Ministry of Hospitality – The Spirit works through all of us

    1. Am I a welcoming person?
    2. Is there room in my life for other or am I too busy?
    3. Do I extend the welcoming gesture, the warm smile?
    4. Do I hear with my heart as well as with my head?
    5. Do I make an effort to encounter Jesus Christ in the people with whom I worship?

What is it?

  • Front porch team
  • Ushers
  • Catholic newspaper sellers
  • Envelope collectors
  • Dues Collectors
  • Altar Society

Each minister has a role in hospitality, a small but beautiful way of showing hospitality can be the manner in which the ministers of the Eucharist exercise their ministry! Hospitality brings a Christ like charm and delight to every ministry in which we serve and every action that we perform! Take up your role in welcoming others into our faith community. “Christ is in you and Christ is in me”

Baptismal Team – “Baptised into the life, death and resurrection of Christ Jesus”

Take the opportunity to meet new people and welcome a new Christian into our community. This is part of our Christian mission…embrace it.

What does it involve?

  1. Part of a team
  2. Visiting the families of those who have asked for baptism for their children
  3. welcoming
  4. supporting
  5. rejoicing
  6. evangelising

The baptismal team make visits on a rota basis, it is not time consuming and I promise it is very rewarding.

Altar Society - The Altar Society of Holy Redeemer is a group of women from the Parish who offer their dedicated service to the Church.  They are involved in the life of the Church in a special way.  Through their efforts, they assist the Sacristan in maintaining the Altar, Sanctuary and Sacristy.  This includes cleaning and setting of the Altar for Services, caring for the vestments, Altar cloths, etc.  They also decorate for special occasions and care for the plants and flowers.

If you would like to become part of this wonderful group just let us know. You will be most welcome.

Altar Servers – In Holy Redeemer we have a very proud tradition of dedicated Altar servers, who over the years have gone on to other ministries in the Church. Altar Servers not only serve the priest at Mass but they also serve God and the entire community.

The duties of an altar server involve everything from lighting candles, carrying the book used at Mass, handling incense and saying prayers.

If you would attend Mass every Sunday, why not serve at the mass? If your interested just leave you name and contact details in the sacristy or with any of the priests.
